More Is Definitely Better!

Forward progress, my friend!
And I hope it continues on this way.
We managed to do some work on the bakery
this weekend which, in a few hours, 
made a huge, huge impact.
Painting the exterior.

The sides of the building are brick
and those will be left alone. 
The front had a face lift a few years ago
with foam and stucco (are we in CA?!)
so we gave it our own lift and opted
for SW Studio Taupe. I think
this place was meant to be ours. 

The door is primed and ready for 
satin black and the fabric arrived
Friday for the canopy to be recovered

This has to be one of the most exciting times
in my life.

I look forward to this chapter
and the rest of the story.

Working Away

Well, so far all of the major demolition has
been done.

We've taken things back to brick and plaster 
as layers of past additions have been
peeled away to expose out of date
wiring and plumbing for replacement and our own
peace of mind and knowledge of where and how
things will be working. We discovered
there had been a fire at that back wall at some point.

We were sent this photo which I believe
was dated wrong since the {original}
Jones Cafe was built in 1936 based on
City records and newspaper clippings.

We're pretty sure this is the same place but there are a few
things that make us wonder, like the windows on 
either side and the little pop out on the right. 

Below is the right side which some of the plaster is still
stuck on pretty good so we decided to not try and chisel 
it off. Old world charm if you ask me. 

And lastly, our paint choice for the exterior. We
picked the lighter shade since 
the door and awning will be black.
Can't wait to get going on that!

Back To Business!

Although it doesn't quite look like it, 
we are making progress on our building.

My contractor (hubs) was down for a good
couple of weeks with a wicked chest cold
which turned into Bronchitis and it 
completely wiped him out.
He's on the tail end of it
(thank goodness!) so progress
on the remodel should be picking
up speed shortly.
Although the brawn of it hasn't been
happening, lots of behind the scenes 
surely has. 

There is a certain style and feel we
are going to put into the bakery
so as time ticks to the destination
of opening, we are collecting,
adding and designing those elements.

I want to share every bit and piece of 
what we are planning and doing but
there is a huge part of me that wants to
keep it under wraps.
Not for any selfish reason but because
I want it to be an event at our
opening. A reveal party, of sorts. 
I will say this; 
Our bakery will have a very similar feel
as our home. Rich colors, warm wood tones
and the elegant touches with crystal, glass,
mirrors and black. 

Of course I'm going to share with you. 
How can I not? 

In the meantime, 
I am back on my baking game.
Beginning next week, I will
be continuing my weekly featured item
as well as taking special orders.

The Market at Chapel Hill

Fall has arrived and it was alive and well this weekend
for our first Market in Alabama.

Fall Schedule

Exciting things are going on for
us in the kitchen this Fall.

On October 3, 2015, we will be selling
in Pike Road, Alabama.

We are beyond thrilled to be able
to participate in such a great
Vintage Market.
We will have lots of goodies and treats
as well as a few handmade items
that were great sellers when we lived 
in California.

We have also accepted the position of
Baker at our local 
Pumpkin Patch Farm
through the end of October.
I will be baking mostly items familiar
to the pumpkin patch but
 will bring some of my
own recipes to share.

I'm excited to have such opportunities
and look forward to it.

Unfortunately, that leaves less 
bake time at FPH and 
having weekly specials.

I will, however, try to 
accommodate special orders
so if you're hankering for something,
give me a ring!

I'll keep you updated, just make sure
you check back!

This Week...

On the menu for this week is
a Fall favorite.

One dozen cupcakes for $15.
Pickup is Friday afternoon, after 3 pm.

Also, Raspberry Almond scones.
By the half dozen (6) or full dozen (12)
6 for $6 and 12 for $12.
These are so, so, good!
If you like sweet and tart together, 
these are a must try.

FPH Bakery scones are a town favorite. 
They are light, flaky and tender.
They are more like a tea cake than a biscuit.

I am super excited to have been asked to bake

On The Menu

I am so ready for Fall weather.
To get us in the mood, I created an amazing
crunchy apple pie with caramel.

This sweetie weighs 3.5 pounds and is
full of delicious Fall flavor.

Although the top will be drizzled with
caramel (from scratch), you'll be 
taking a jar home too for extra sticky sweetness or
 to top ice cream, dip apples or flavor  your coffee.

This Week

Sometimes recipes don't quite turn 
out how we hope.
This weeks pastry was the one.
Although the taste is a-m-a-z-i-n-g,
 not to sweet, not too tart,
I was not impressed with the presentation.

I was a little unsure about the 
mini pie size, as well. 
SO, I will rethink this one and
 try again because I really
want to have some apple pie 
in the case for 
Chapel Market and I think 
the size will be perfect
for a special treat at a special event.

Heading back to the kitchen 
and going for it with
a Caramel Crunch Apple Pie 
for next week.

Peach Galette

How about a Rustic Peach Pie?

We live in close proximity to Alabama's great 
Peach region, Chilton County.
Every week during peak season, the peach truck brings
baskets of these beautiful jewels to town and sells them from
their canopied tailgate.

I am celebrating peaches this week and our weekly special is this delicious, sweet, buttery pastry
that is excellent for summertime with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream.

This Week

I started my weekly special last week and made yummy
lemon blueberry scones. 
I was very excited to be baking and having 
people over to pick up their pastries.

This week, I am baking 6 inch, 
4 layer strawberry and vanilla cakes for $20 each.

Everything is baked from scratch with the best ingredients.
This is only available to locals since I cannot ship.

I am getting my website boutique {on The French Pressed Home} put together so you can shop
directly from the page instead of Etsy. There you'll be able to purchase vanilla, tea towels, aprons
and other home goods and decor.
